Dr. George Korfiatis is currently the McLean Chair Professor of environmental engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology.  He joined Stevens as an Assistant Professor in 1983 after earning his doctoral degree at Rutgers University. He founded the Center for Environmental Systems in 1988 and has been performing research in the areas of groundwater pollution, soil remediation and drinking water quality. He has published extensively in these areas in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Korfiatis served as Dean of the Schaefer School of Engineering and Provost and University Vice-President of Stevens from 2002 to 2016. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors and has been named the Inventor of the Year by the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame in 2009. Dr. Korfiatis is a co-author of several US patents and a co-founder of two Stevens enterprise companies: PlasmaSol Corp. and HydroGlobe LLC, both acquired by Fortune 500 companies. He holds an Honorary ME degree from Stevens and Honorary Doctorates from Stevens Institute of Technology, UKM the National University of Malaysia and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece.
